Chris Mason

Coach Chris Mason (C-MO) started his basketball and education journey at Lamesa High School in a small town in west Texas. Coach Mason was named the South Plains player of the year as well as 1st Team All State after leading the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes to an appearance in the state championship basketball game. After graduating high school, Coach Mason earned a four-year scholarship to play basketball at Angelo State University, in San Angelo, Texas. While playing for the Rams, Mason helped the team win two Lone Star Conference titles. After a stellar career with the Rams, Mason was inducted into the Angelo State Hall of Honor in 2019.

Cmo, as he is known to many of his peers, graduated from Angelo State and earned a degree in kinesiology and history. He later earned a Master of Education degree in Administration from Lamar University.

Coach Mason started his coaching career in Laporte, Texas and quickly moved up the career ladder to become the head basketball of Laporte High School for an amazing 13 years. While at Laporte, Mason won 274 games for the Bulldogs, averaging over 20 wins after going 7-24 in his first season at the helm. Then in 2010-2011, Coach Mason decided to take the head coaching position at Texas City High School in Texas City, Texas. The year before Mason arrived, the Stings had only won four games the previous season. Low and behold, Coach Mason led his team to the playoffs in his first season as well as ten more times after that in his 13 years as the head coach of the Texas City Stingarees.

After 34 years in education, and 26 years as a head basketball coach at two distinguished schools, Coach Mason decided to retire from education as a teacher and coach with an astonishing 531 wins, five-time district Coach of the Year awards, and three Galveston County Coach of the Year awards. While reflecting on his time in his career, several district titles and playoff game victories, nothing was more important to Coach Mason than seeing his former students and basketball players grow and develop into young men and women.
